I wake up early in the morning and drink coffee" - Niko Tsetskhladze, from the series Coffee Angels.
Gallery we see items presents a solo exhibition by artist Niko Tsetskhladze.
Niko Tsetskhladze was a member of informal artist groups in the 1980s, including X Floor and Marjanishvili Workshop. Since then, he has actively participated in various artistic projects and exhibitions. In the early 1990s, just before the outbreak of war, he took part in one of the first performances in Georgia, Stand Against.
Tsetskhladze’s performances often address social and political themes. His well-known Caravanserai Performance explored the topic of the abolition and devaluation of Soviet money. His art frequently transcends the boundaries of space and form - it is a living act of expression, a gesture, and a statement all at once.
The artist has held numerous exhibitions in cities such as Berlin, Nantes, Paris, Narva, and Prague, including: ifa Gallery (Berlin, Germany, 1997), Transformation at Friedrichgalerie (Cologne, Germany, 1998), the Istanbul Biennale at Siemens Sanat Gallery (2007), Born in Georgia at the Cobra Museum (Amsterdam, 2009), UNESCO (Paris), and the Prague Contemporary Art Centre (2016).
In recent years, he has participated in several significant exhibitions, including: Round Again, celebrating 30 years of British-Georgian artistic collaboration at CCA Tbilisi; More Transparent, a group exhibition at CH64 Gallery; The Space of Possibilities, or How to Build a Road at Gamrekeli Modern Art Gallery, among others.
In 2020, during the pandemic, he created the project Self-Isolation, presented in the courtyard of the Stamba Hotel.
His works are held in museums and private collections across various countries.
